ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, (A Great Place, Doing Great Things, Because of Great People!), is seeking applicants to fill a Director of Development position to support the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Foundation, and to commit to advancing the mission and values of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.

This is a full-time/salaried position with benefits. Restricted Position: This position is grant funded with funding expected to last up to 3 years. The position could continue subject to receipt of additional funding and continued business need.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Restricted Position: This position is grant funded with funding expected to last up to 3 years. The position could continue subject to receipt of additional funding and continued business need.


The Director of Development will support the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2008 to support the educational programs and activities of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.


The Director of Development will be responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills and will work closely with the Executive Director and Foundation’s Board of Directors to develop fundraising goals and strategies, work towards establishing an endowment, and developing best practice policies and procedures.
The incumbent will also perform other related duties in the furtherance of the Foundation’s goals and mission to support the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.
• Experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special  events.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials.
• Strong leadership and management skills with proven success in building productive relationships with management, business leaders, staff boards, funders and donors.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, and volunteers.
• Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.
• Experience that demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work appropriately in team environments exhibiting cooperative working relationships and a positive attitude.
• Experience communicating orally with demonstrated ability to make effective presentations to large or small audiences and experience demonstrating the ability to communicate in writing with the ability to prepare reports and other similar forms of documents.
• Excellent computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Outlook/Excel/Word, and experience demonstrating the ability to process and enter data.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of nonprofit best practices in policy, financial management and strategic planning.
• Knowledge of endowment creation and philanthropy management.
• Knowledge of budget and resource management.
