Job Duties:

The mission of the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired is to provide services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired, or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence.

We are seeking a Dormitory Supervisor (Overnight) to provide supervision and support for students in the dormitory during non-instructional hours. This role ensures a welcoming, safe, and comfortable living environment while encouraging students to practice and enhance their skills of blindness and independent living.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Dorm Supervision: Operate the dorm office, orient and supervise students, and provide guidance and instruction.
  • Communication: Prepare reports, emails, and briefings as needed. 
  • Health Education Assistance: Empower students to take an active role in managing their health independently.
  • Program Development: Assist with training, tours, and orientation activities.
  • Linen Services: Maintain linen inventory and related records.


Other duties and special projects may be assigned as needed by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification


Knowledge/Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adaptive blindness skills to enhance independence. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of first aid and medical emergency response protocols and procedures

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook. 
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment.
  • Ability to problem solve independently.
  • Ability to work well with students, family members, supervisor/manager, coworkers, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience working with individuals who are blind or vision impaired.

Special Instructions

  • This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1.
  • A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the finalist candidate.
