About the Organization
The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) is the coordinating body for Virginia's higher education system. SCHEV promotes an affordable, equitable, and high-quality postsecondary system by fostering collaboration among institutions, advising policymakers, and providing guidance to colleges and universities.

In 2021, SCHEV launched Pathways to Opportunity: The Virginia Plan for Higher Education, a statewide roadmap to make Virginia the "Best State for Education" by 2030. Achieving this vision requires collaboration across higher education, K-12, government, and community partners.

SCHEV values honesty, equity, inclusion, transparency, and accountability, and strives to be a workplace where public servants are engaged in advancing educational and economic opportunity for all Virginians.

Position Overview
The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) is operated and a collaborative effort between the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Virginia Business-Higher Education Council (VBHEC) and Virginia colleges and universities. This unique-in-the-nation program is focused on significantly increasing the number and quality of work-based learning opportunities for Virginia students (paid internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, project-based experiences, etc.). More information is available at these two websites: https://virginiatop.org/ and https://schev.edu/index/institutional/grants/commonwealth-innovative-internship-program

About the Position
The Innovative Work-Based Learning Assistant role is designed to engage and support outreach within the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP). This part-time position assists the Associate for Innovative Work-Based Learning Initiatives and provides opportunities to help design and implement V-TOP's upcoming program expansion.

The focus will be on supporting regional activities in GO Virginia Region 9, which include the Charlottesville, Albemarle, Culpeper, and nearby areas.

SCHEV is seeking a part-time candidate residing in Region 9. These candidates will facilitate institutional and stakeholder engagement within their respective regions. Candidates must live in the GO Virginia region they represent to ensure effective presence and collaboration with local partners and institutions.

This position is hybrid, requiring occasional in-person work at the SCHEV office in downtown Richmond, with the option for telework based on individual arrangements.

SCHEV is seeking a forward-thinking individual to fill the position of the Innovative Work-Based Learning Assistant to assist the state agency with the Innovative Internship Fund and Program (IIF&P), as created in 2019 in statute (see Va. Code § 23.1-903.4), which expands paid and credit-bearing opportunities for student internships and other work-based learning opportunities in collaboration with employers. The IIF&P is known externally as the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP).

The Innovative Work-Based Learning Assistant(s) will apply their knowledge, experience and best practices in the field of work-based learning to multiple V-TOP initiatives related to the readiness of employers, students, and institutions of higher education to significantly scale work-based learning opportunities in the Commonwealth. More specifically, the incumbents will support the V-TOP team’s existing partnerships, and develop new relationships with Virginia institutions and employers that offer high-quality experiential learning opportunities to Virginia students; and will assist with the co-collaboration and coordination of statewide efforts with V-TOP leadership and the existing Associates for Innovative Work-Based Learning Initiatives; and will collaborate with the nine institution-led regions to enhance the partnership and engagement of V-TOP resources.

•Assist in acting as the liaison for support between the Associates for Innovative Work-Based Learning Initiatives, businesses and institutions of higher education within the regions regarding work-based learning activities.
•Working collaboratively with the V-TOP team and other stakeholders on designing new resources for student-, employer- and institutional-readiness.
•Contribute to V-TOP’s growth and the creation and implementation of new initiatives via development of recommendations and proposals and then taking ownership of new activities.
