Job Duties

The VDOE oversees Virginia’s unified early childhood care and education system, including child care, family child care, Head Start and school-based PreK with the goals of ensuring families can choose high-quality, accessible, and safe options and every child is prepared for school and success. The Office of Child Care Health and Safety contributes to these efforts by helping providers comply with regulations and standards that create a foundation for healthy and safe care and education experiences.

In this role, you will research, analyze, and evaluate data and operational functions that help ensure quality management across the state in conjunction with departmental policies and procedures. Support the Office of Child Care Health and Safety team by ensuring all staff have the necessary tools and resources to successfully perform work responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Proven ability to provide timely and appropriate technical assistance to a wide range of individuals (e.g., licensing staff, providers of child day programs, management, public officials, etc.) seeking assistance with policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated capacity for self-directed work.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead team assignments by setting and meeting objectives, goals, and target completion dates.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of project planning and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, edit and oversee the preparation of complex documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and organize documents submitted from organizations, document oral and written argument from licensees and the general public.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Considerable knowledge of conflict analysis and resolution techniques.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, teleconferencing platforms, and online systems for data collection and reporting.

Additional Considerations

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience with fleet management, document management (storage, retention, digitization and secure disposal), and postal services.
  • Experience using eVA, the Commonwealth’s eProcurement system.
