Job Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will teach a full academic load (12 credit hours per semester); the specific focus for this position is the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; will have the duty to comply with the University’s regulations and rules governing teaching, research, and service; will conduct relevant research in the discipline; will advise students; will recruit and retain students; will serve on university, departmental, and school committees; will promote the Department at campus and community events; and other duties assigned by the Department Chairperson.

 

This position will have a start of August 10, 2026.

 

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must hold a terminal degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related health related field.

If the terminal degree is not specifically in Nutrition or Dietetics, the candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.

Candidate must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Candidate must have demonstrated prior teaching experience at the college/university level, ability to work with a diverse population of students and colleagues;

Candidate must have strong educational preparation, teaching, scholarship, and research experience at the college/university level.

Candidate must have relevant post-credentialing work experience in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge/experience working in the discipline.

Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Candidate must be proficient technology skills to include computer literacy.

Candidate must have ability to work independently and collaboratively as required.




*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior teaching experience at an HBCU, is preferred.

Curricula development/management, is preferred.

Student advising, is preferred.

Scholarly research, is preferred.
