What You’ll Do:
As a Customer Service Generalist, you'll serve as the face of the DMV, delivering top-notch service to a diverse customer base. Your daily responsibilities will include:
Communicating DMV policies, procedures, and regulations effectively
Issuing identification cards and processing customer applications
Administering vision screenings, knowledge exams, and in-car road tests
Handling a variety of vehicle registration, titling, and tax/fee collection services
Managing cash and credit card transactions with accuracy and professionalism

Minimum Qualifications
• Proven ability to provide face-to-face customer service, addressing needs and concerns professionally and courteously.
• Proficiency in operating computer systems, databases, and other equipment necessary for DMV operations.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including transaction reconciliations.
• Ability to interpret, explain, and apply complex statutes such as the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code, as well as other laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Adaptability to frequent changes in statutes, policies, and procedures.
• Strong analytical skills to review records, files, and documents, reaching logical and legal conclusions.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak workload periods.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers and colleagues.
• Ability to complete required training and perform work tasks at various workstations within the CSC as assigned.
• Operational proficiency to utilize all necessary tools and equipment efficiently.
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of DMV policies and procedures related to licensing, registration, titling, and compliance with the Privacy Protection Act.
• Familiarity with public sector operations, including state agency procedures and government regulations.
• Previous experience mentoring or training staff in a professional environment.
• Previous experience with DMV operations or a similar regulatory agency.
• Comprehensive experience mentoring or guiding team members in a professional setting.
• Security Clearances: A criminal background check is required to ensure the integrity of DMV operations.
• Driver’s License: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with fewer than 6 demerit points.
• Instructor Certification: Must be 21 years of age and maintain the instructor certification for administering road tests.
