The Department of Accounts (DOA) is seeking a dynamic Deputy State Comptroller to oversee statewide accounting and financial reporting functions while assisting the State Comptroller with payroll operations, automated systems, and agency operations. This is a rare opportunity to shape fiscal policy, drive innovation, and ensure compliance across all state agencies. 

Job Duties

Provide unified leadership for Department of Accounts operations. Promote cross-agency resource sharing to strengthen enterprise system planning and financial reporting controls. Maintain a robust statewide accounting control framework.

• Lead and Manage: Directly supervise several department directors within the agency.
• Strategic Oversight: Plan, analyze, and evaluate programs to ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations.
• Policy Leadership: Interpret and recommend statewide accounting policies and regulations; review legislative bills impacting financial systems, accounting, and reporting.
• Representation: Act as the State Comptroller’s representative at meetings and interagency discussions.
• Risk Management: Implement internal control standards to mitigate financial reporting and accounting risks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education or professional experience in accounting required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, and state/federal financial policies.
• Expertise in internal controls, compliance, and automated systems.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to interpret complex regulations, resolve challenging problems, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience managing professional teams and large-scale financial processes.

Additional Considerations

• Professional certification in accounting or a related field preferred.
• Expertise in preparing and issuing complex governmental financial statements and reports preferred.
• Significant senior-level experience in governmental accounting and financial processes preferred.
• Completion of Statement of Economic Interests required upon hire and annually thereafter.
