About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Deputy Chief Information Officer in our Information Technology Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
• The Deputy CIO serves as the CITO’s principal operational deputy, responsible for executing the CITO’s technology strategy through day-to-day oversight of enterprise IT operations, service delivery, workforce performance, and approved modernization efforts.
• This role ensures operational stability, consistent service management, and accountability across IT services while maintaining continuity during transformation.
• The Deputy CIO oversees infrastructure, applications, cloud operations, service management, and the technical environments supporting data and cybersecurity functions.
• The position works in close coordination with the CITO, Enterprise PMO Director, Chief Data Officer, Enterprise Cloud Architect, and Chief Information Security Officer to ensure cohesive planning, governance, and execution across technology domains and to translate strategic direction into measurable operational outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge:
• Of enterprise information technology operations; service delivery models; cloud and infrastructure environments; cybersecurity principles; and IT governance
Skills:
• In leading and directing technical and operational teams in a complex, decentralized environment.
Ability:
• To communicate technical and strategic information clearly to executives, operational leadership, technical staff, and external partners.
• To plan, organize, and manage resources, budgets, vendors, and contracts to support operational requirements.
• To assess and mitigate technology risks, ensure compliance with applicable standards, and support modernization and lifecycle management activities.
• To establish effective working relationships, build organizational alignment, and lead teams through change while maintaining reliability and security of mission critical systems.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience and training in information technology, cyber security, enterprise operations management and solutions, organizational alignment, and project management required.
Additional Considerations
• Experience working in public sector and/or public safety organizations preferred.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is desirable.
