The role provides administrative and operational support to the Procurement Director to ensure consistent organization, direction, and oversight of the University’s procurement programs and operations. The role assists with purchasing activities, vendor coordination, documentation, and compliance processes. The role ensures the timely and accurate processing of procurement requests, supports contract and supplier management, and helps maintain efficient, compliant, and cost-effective procurement operations in alignment with organizational policies and objectives.
Virginia State University’s Office of Procurement Services is seeking a highly organized and service-oriented Procurement Support Specialist to provide essential administrative and operational support to the Procurement Director and management team. This position plays a critical role in supporting purchasing activities, managing departmental communications (including the main inbox and phone line), coordinating training and meetings, maintaining records, assisting with eVA, Banner, and Cardinal transactions, and ensuring compliance with university and Commonwealth procurement policies. The role also supports leadership with scheduling, correspondence, meeting minutes, and special projects, while managing departmental communications, including social media and website updates. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong customer service, attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum qualifications include an associate’s degree or equivalent experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with office technology and data tracking tools, and the ability to obtain Virginia Contracting Associate (VCA) certification within 18 months of hire.

Working knowledge of integrated and electronic systems, including electronic procurement systems.
Proficiency in word processing and data processing. Working knowledge of procurement principles and practices.
