Job Duties
Virginia Energy is seeking a qualified applicant to advance reclamation projects that abate public health, safety, and environmental hazards arising from abandoned coal mine lands throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. This includes identification of hazards, drafting environmental documents on proposed actions to abate the hazards, and assisting as needed in obtaining funding and rights of entry to conduct the reclamation. The employee also ensures that reclamation work is conducted in accordance with Virginia’s state reclamation plan for abandoned coal mine lands, and also in accordance with rules and regulations promulgated through the Virginia Coal Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1979.

Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of scientific, regulatory, and engineering principles related to the advancement of abandoned coal mine reclamation projects to abate public health, safety, and environmental hazards.
•Ability to effectively manage the interpretation and implementation of rules and regulations related to federal and state abandoned coal mine reclamation programs is required.
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and possess effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to proofread.
•Demonstrated ability to effectively use personal computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment, handle multiple responsibilities with competing deadlines, organize tasks, and prioritize workflow.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, pay attention to detail, and complete assignments within established timeframes.
•Ability to work in the field, navigate over rough terrain (i.e., stoop, crawl, and bend), and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment.
•Skills in use of engineering and scientific equipment, video and photographic equipment, and computer systems.
•Individual must be skilled in 4-WD vehicle operation and basic maintenance in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
Additional Considerations
Experience with engineering design, property ownership determinations, environmental assessment, grants development, and construction cost estimates is preferred.

This position is fully remote and involves frequent fieldwork in the following areas (including but not limited to): Richmond (approximately 80%), Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan, Henrico, Augusta, Botetourt, Montgomery, Rockingham, Pulaski, Wythe, Bland, and Smyth.
