Job Duties
Fairfax City is seeking a self-motivated leader for the position of Fairfax City Clerk of Court. The Clerk is the chief administrative officer for the Court and is responsible for the management and application of court resources. This position includes authority over service to the public, financial performance, bookkeeping, staffing, budgets, and efficient caseload processing in records management, cash handling, and public relations. This position ensures the Court's instructions are executed properly, and legal papers are prepared accurately, in accordance with state and local policies and procedures. The Clerk must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of current statutes, legal practices, and the Court's Administrative Policies and Procedures, applying them consistently.
The Clerk oversees the day-to-day court operations, assists in training efforts, monitors work assignments and ensures deadlines are met. Actively seeks out opportunities to motivate and encourage staff. Models great customer service interactions, maintains effective relationships with judges, court staff, and stakeholder agencies. The Clerk occasionally develops and presents materials for meetings. Periodically evaluates offices procedures for improvement and implements necessary changes. In addition to supervisory and administrative responsibilities, the Clerk is an integral part of the work force in case processing, bookkeeping, budgets, financial procedures, public service, and all other tasks connected with the functioning of the Court.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess substantial experience at the supervisory or management level in a court or business. A college degree and 5 years of related, professional experience is preferred. Applicants should be highly organized, and possess demonstrated knowledge and skills in public relations, human resource management, recruitment, performance management, training and evaluation, computerized case management, and regulatory and statutory compliance. Competitive applicants will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. In addition to demonstrated competence in the areas listed above, the strong candidate will have experience in financial and records management systems and a proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
