Gunston Hall is pleased to announce an opening for a part-time guest engagement associate at an unparalleled historic site on scenic Mason Neck in Fairfax County, Virginia. In addition, Gunston Hall’s vast grounds and an inside rental space act as a historic venue available for private events including but not limited to: weddings, meetings, conferences, celebratory life events, and 2-3 large scale festival type programs. A 550 sq. ft. Museum Shop is in the Visitor Center. The shop sells a wide range of items for guests to purchase daily. To learn more, visit: www.gunstonhall.org
This role reports to the Guest Engagement Manager. The incumbent must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends and holidays. This is an hourly/wage position without benefits. Wage employees are limited to working on average no more than 29 hours per week (1,500 hours per year from May 1 – April 30).
Job Duties:
• Create a welcoming environment for all event attendees
• Greet visitors and private event guests and orient them for a positive experience at Gunston Hall
• Promote and share information about public programs and special events
• Book private event appointments and assist with event setup
• Ensure that the Visitor Center and restrooms are ready for guests during open and event hours
• Monitor the museum exhibitions in the Visitor Center
• Enforce food and drink standards in the gallery spaces for event guests
• Assist with the opening and closing of the visitor center and gallery spaces
• Support administrative tasks, day-to-day museum and special operations as needed
• Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff members as necessary
• Unpack inventory, stock shelves and maintain accurate shop records
• Operate a POS system for ticketing and museum shop sales; reconcile daily transactions
• Keep accurate admissions records
Minimum Qualifications
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Responsibility and trustworthiness
• Ability to use a POS system
• The ability to lift up to 25lb.
• Ability to work with staff in other departments and outside professionals
• Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment such as computers, telephone systems, audio-visual equipment, and cash registers
• Ability to maintain an electronic calendar to schedule events
• Ability to multi-task
• Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends
Additional Considerations
• Experience in museums, historic sites, hospitality, or customer service
• Knowledge of tourism management or event planning
