Job Duties
Virginia Military Institute is accepting internal applications for Maintenance Foreman for Facilities Maintenance Department.
Job Description:
• Serving as the Point of Contact for day-to-day operations for the shop when the supervisor is absent, or not available, by attending meetings, providing instructions, ensuring work completed, and updating supervisor of events, issues, and progress.
• Performing general maintenance of facilities at VMI. Duties typically include a combination of the following: perform and assist in, included but not limited to plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, and snow/ice removal.
• Assisting the supervisor in planning projects, establishing work schedules, ordering supplies, and overseeing contractors.
• Properly completing and maintaining accurate record keeping including data in the work order (CMMS) system for accurate accountability.
• Responding to emails and phone calls in a professional and timely manner
• Working well independently and with others in a team environment and the public.
• Occasionally working weekends and evenings to support VMI functions and emergencies.
• Being on call, every third week as part of a team, with the ability to respond in a reasonable time and identified as essential personnel for responding to emergencies and/or natural disasters.
• Ensuring all personnel adhere to policies/guidelines governing conduct, wearing of the uniform, leave, proper operation of vehicles, maintaining equipment, wearing personal protective equipment, etc., to maintain Physical Plant as a safe and professional place to work
• Performing other duties as assigned by management such as event preparation and support, inclement weather support, and special project teams
Minimum Qualifications
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, communication skills
• Problem solving skills and adaptability
• Proficient computer skills to include email, word, excel, iPad, etc.
• Successful candidate should have experience and knowledge in plumbing, electrical and carpentry work.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with clean driving record required
• Ability to work from heights and operate a power lift
Additional Considerations
• Extensive experience in the maintenance field
• Trades License and/or certifications
• Proficiency in computer software and record keeping procedures.
• Use of a computer maintenance database (CMMS)
• Bucket Truck, JLG, scissor lift experience
