Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Taxation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as an Interstate Sales and Use Tax Auditor. This is a remote position open to candidates located in major metropolitan areas across the continental United States.
The primary responsibility for this position is to research, plan and conduct audits of multi-state corporations that conduct business in Virginia. The goal is to ensure that these corporations are compliant with Virginia tax laws.
The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, self-motivation, excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
High-speed Internet connection (preferably not Satellite) is REQUIRED with a Download speed of 2 MB or higher and an Upload speed of 1 MB or higher. (See testing requirements under special instructions)
This position is 100% remote, though must reside within 50 miles of a major airport.
The anticipated hiring range is commensurate with experience up to $85,000

Minimum Qualifications
Progressive work experience with state sales & use tax auditing
Extensive knowledge of and experience with accounting, auditing, state and federal tax laws, rules and regulations
Computer skills and experience with Microsoft office software as well as electronic data & files
Must reside in a major metropolitan area within 50 miles of an airport
Must have own transportation available to travel to audits throughout the geographical coverage area
Have a quiet, safe and private home-based work office/space (subject to inspection) with high speed Internet (not wireless) & locking file cabinet.
Must hold a valid US Driver's License
Additional Considerations
Applicant has worked in the field independently and in a home-based environment with minimal supervision.
