Job Duties:
The mission of the Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is to employ and develop Virginians who are Blind, Visually Impaired or Deaf Blind to achieve their desired level of employment through the manufacture and delivery of quality products and services.
VIB is seeking a VIB Supply Store Associate (Wage) for the Mark Center Supply Store in Alexandria to perform the following duties:
• Perform stock clerk, cashier, and customer service duties utilizing an automated point‑of‑sale system
• Operate the cash register as needed
• Provide customer service and assist with special orders
• Receive merchandise
• Stock shelves
• Conduct quality assurance
• Perform material movement tasks
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide Customer Service – “Greeted customers, answered inquiries and phone calls, and promptly escalated concerns to management.”
- Operating Computerized Point of Sale Register – “Processed sales by scanning items, handling payments, issuing receipts, maintaining records, and generating purchase requests for stock and special orders.”
- Store Appearance – “Maintained a clean, well‑stocked store and used equipment such as pallet jacks, flatbeds, and dollies to move merchandise.”
- Performed Other Duties as Assigned – “Completion of all mandatory federal, state, and agency training.”
Other duties include general support of Base Supply Store operations, including completing tasks or projects assigned by the Manager, Regional Manager, and/or Supervisor.
This is a wage (part‑time) position working an average of 24–32 hours per week and not exceeding 1,500 hours per employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement, or leave benefits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrated problem-solving and excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Proficient computer skills, familiarity with internet, Microsoft Windows operating system, and Microsoft Office software
• Ability to perform duties independently without direct supervision
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand up to 8 hours

Employment is contingent upon the selected candidate being able to pass a background check required for access to the Federal Building.
