Job Duties
The software development team at Commonwealth Savers directs the design and administration of the Commonwealth’s education savings programs. As an independent, mission-driven agency, the organization maintains complete control of its technology environment, with our internal team overseeing all systems and networks. We are hiring a Full Stack Senior Software Developer to design and deliver modern software systems that power our financial platforms, mobile applications, and systems integrations, with a strong emphasis on backend technologies. This role requires expertise in relational database design and development, particularly with Oracle or similar RDMS systems, as well as advanced Java development skills. In this position, you will:
• Full-stack development with a strong emphasis on building and integrating robust back-end services, focusing on relational database design, development, and optimization -particularly using Oracle or similar RDMS systems—and ensuring seamless connectivity with complex front-end interfaces and cloud infrastructure
• Architect and deliver high-impact Java-based technical solutions for strategic initiatives, proactively identifying backend modernization opportunities, mitigating risks, and recommending improvements to enterprise application architecture
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, ops, and security to ensure cohesive delivery
• Mentor developers and foster knowledge sharing, with a focus on backend best practices, relational database performance tuning, and Java development standards to support succession planning and talent growth
• Maintain high-quality, testable, and reusable code, with rigorous test coverage and adherence to industry standards for database interactions and data integrity
• Design and build scalable RESTful APIs and backend services, aligning with platform performance, reliability, and data consistency goals
• Champion security best practices and establish a security-first mindset for software development
Minimum Qualifications
• 7+ years of progressive full-stack development experience, including complex enterprise application delivery
• Experience with relational database design and development, ideally with Oracle or similar RDMS systems including proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL
• Expertise in Java, JavaScript/Typescript, HTML, CSS, SQL, JSON, GitHub, REST API’s.
• Strong background in software architecture, systems modernization, and ideally some experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
• Experience with designing and deploying solutions to AWS including cloud-native capabilities, serverless and containers
• Proficiency in code management, test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies
• Experience collaborating with UI/UX teams and cross-functional stakeholders
• Interest in using new GenAI capabilities to improve the software development process
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff and business stakeholders
• Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and guide teams through delivery
• Ability to independently prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to explain complex technical issues to diverse audience
• Strong analytical and process formulation skills

• Hybrid employment opportunities with a minimum of two days in office per week
