Job Duties
This position will provide speech and language support for psychogeriatric patients utilizing a patient-centered model. Identify, assess, train, and return individuals to the least restrictive diet. Prioritize individual interests, respect individuals and employees, and share and use information and resources. Work in an interdisciplinary team to provide evaluative and treatment/training services, to achieve maximum functional skills for individuals with identified needs for speech therapy, nutritional management services and need of modified barium swallow studies. To promote dignity, self-determination, and empowerment, for both staff and patient in order to meet each individual's potential in work, and everyday aspects of life.
- Knowledge of assessment and treatment in speech/language pathology, audiological services, nutritional management and effective resource management principles.
- Possess knowledge of the specialized facts and clinical skills necessary to provide care for individuals with physical disability and chronic illness.
- Considerable knowledge of geriatric and psychiatric/mental.
- Considerable ability to assess a changing patient environment and manage the therapeutic milieu.
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment/recovery team.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
-Skilled in verbal and written communication and problem-solving.
- Ability to lead and coordinate work among various disciplines and cross-functional departments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of all requirements for a master's degree in speech/language pathology.
- Licensed and certified to practice speech/language pathology in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Experienced at designing, implementing, and evaluating assessment and treatment/training strategies in the domain of speech/language pathology
Additional Considerations
- Prior experience in a hospital setting.
- Prior experience in a psychiatric setting.
