Job Duties
The Functional Maintenance Therapist (PTA or COTA) supports ongoing rehabilitative, restorative, and functional maintenance needs for veterans in accordance with CMS guidelines. This role delivers therapist delegated interventions, implements maintenance programs, and provides training to ensure safe and consistent functional carryover across the care team. In addition to direct patient engagement, this position serves as the lead for transfer training related to functional mobility, safe patient handling, and restorative program expectations. Schedule: Full time, 7-3:30 day shift. Monday – Friday with possible weekend rotation.
Key Responsibilities
• Implement functional maintenance and restorative programs designed by supervising PT/OT
• Provide interventions addressing mobility, strength, balance, transfers, ADLs, and functional independence
• Carry out delegated therapy related procedures within PTA/COTA scope and restorative programming expectations
• Conduct transfer training sessions, ensuring staff competency in safe patient handling and technique
• Lead orientation for new staff on mobility equipment, transfer methods, and functional maintenance procedures
• Develop and deliver in services for the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to support consistent carryover of therapeutic recommendations
• Document patient participation and progress per CMS, facility, and professional standards
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the supervising therapist promptly
• Assist veterans with adaptive equipment use and safety strategies
• Support communication and collaboration across nursing, therapy, and IDT members
• Maintain an organized, safe, and supportive therapeutic environment

Minimum Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
• Familiarity with functional maintenance, restorative programs, and rehabilitative techniques
• Ability to follow and implement therapy plans under PT/OT supervision
• Strong skills in mobility training, transfers, gait, and safe patient handling
• Confidence and professionalism in providing staff education, training, and in services
• Ability to work with diverse veteran populations using person centered care principles
• Effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff
• Basic documentation competency in PCC and Net Health Rehab Optima

• Experience working with veterans or in VA affiliated environments is beneficial
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to teach, coach, and mentor staff
• Ability to work independently while adhering to PT/OT supervision requirements
