Job Duties

This position will telework with routine travel within the assigned region (North-West Region).

To plan and operate a system of evidence-based practices and services that support victim awareness/advocacy as it relates to the Code of Virginia as well as related inmate/probationer/parolee programming. To register, assist, explain, and document victim notification of inmate status changes and advocate for victim rights and involvement in the criminal justice system. Provide support, development, and training for the NAAVI (Notification And Assistance for Victim Inclusion) notification system and other victimology related and evidence-based programs. Manage marketing development for victim-centered programs. Develop and manage evaluations of the Victim Services Unit and related programming.

To provide supervision of reentry services to victims of crime whose perpetrators are in the custody and supervision of the VA Department of Corrections. To provide counseling, victim rights explanations, and explanations of the criminal justice process. To assist victims with input to the Parole Board and Attorney General's Victim Notification Program. To coordinate instruction at the DOC Academy. To represent DOC’s Victim Services Unit on several victim boards and victim organizations throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Within a specified region, develop/manage/facilitate a network of collaborated partnerships to respond to needs of crime victims.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of case management and crisis intervention techniques. Demonstrated ability to assist clients and make referrals to appropriate agencies. Interpret and explain procedures and laws. Work effectively with people and as part of a team. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Considerable victim advocacy and corrections experience.

Additional Considerations

Experience in working with the public, victims or crime and for a victim services organization. Knowledge of VADOC procedures. Knowledge of the Virginia Victims' Bill of Rights.
