The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s Digital Media Services department produces videos, audio programs, digital interactives, professional photography and online digital resources, manages outsourced digital media projects and provides audio-visual services. The digital media team collaborates interdepartmentally to create digital products that explore the convergence of cultures in 17th- and 18th- century Virginia, and inspire numerous museum audiences to consider legacies of those early interactions.
Job Duties
The Digital Media Services department is seeking a 2026 Summer intern interested in museums, media production, audiovisual technology, and social media. The Digital Media Services department oversees and collaborates on the creation and implementation of digital content and media for the museum’s galleries and website, and provides AV support for technology-based exhibits, programs and events. The individual in this role will work as a member of a diverse team of staff, collaborating interdepartmentally on the creation of new digital content and AV support. This intern will assist with a variety of departmental projects, including:
Principal Job Functions:
• Historical research
• Image research, photography and photo-editing
• Scriptwriting and storyboarding
• Video production and editing
• Creation of social media posts
• Audio visual equipment set-up, testing, operation and maintenance
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to conduct historical research and effectively use historical
sources
• Experience producing content for a variety of social media platforms
• Proven ability to write for a public audience
• Interest in public history and museum studies
• Familiarity with or interest in the 17th and 18th century history
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment, make sound
decisions and take initiative.
• Experience with photography and photo-editing a plus
• Previous coursework in history or related field.
• Must be able to work at three separate sites as needed: Jamestown Settlement,
American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and the Philip G. Emerson Central Support
Complex (near Water Country USA).
Additional Considerations
Must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed at least 1 year in a higher education or a skilled trade or a tech program.
