Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is currently seeking qualified candidates to join the SAU team as an Situational Awareness Unit Support Analyst.

This is a wage position, not to exceed 1500 working hours per year (May 1- April 30). This position is also not entitled to state benefits.

Day Shift: Monday - Friday (flexible hours) 

The SAU Support Analyst has a crucial role in supporting the Situational Awareness Unit by collaborating with stakeholders to research information, analyze documentation, and produce materials to include reports, presentations, procedures, and information lists. The Support Analyst will be required to manage communications through email and phone calls, organize meetings, develop and maintain contact lists and provide general support to the Situational Awareness Unit. The Support Analyst will work in an office environment with occasional travel to provide operational support. During exercises and activations of the VEOC, the Support Analyst will relay information to appropriate personnel as required and assist in the development of materials for distribution to internal and external stakeholders.

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations such as inclement weather and natural or human-made disasters. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the Employee Work Profile.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrates basic map reading skills, research skills, analytical skills, and project management skills,
• Proficiency in using computers (Microsoft Office Products) is required, including accurate typing and document completion with minimal supervision
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently handle projects that have time-sensitive deadlines
• Must demonstrate strong coordination and organizational skills
• Demonstrated experience working effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team
• Must possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

• Knowledge of Emergency Management foundations and fundamentals

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range. This is a restricted position due to the funding source.
