Job Duties
Performs hands on repair and maintenance services in areas of the building trades, including electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical, and related structural systems. Trains and supervises inmates that perform their assigned work in a safe and efficient manner. Maintains all required documentation to include work orders, purchase orders and maintenance schedules.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, along with progressively responsible work experience in one or more skilled trade specialties. Applicants must have prior experience organizing, prioritizing, and completing work assignments with minimal supervision. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is required. Candidates must possess skill in the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and related equipment, as well as the ability to perform a wide variety of skilled repair and maintenance tasks across trades and utility areas. The position requires the ability to perform heavy manual labor and work from heights, to assign and inspect the work of others, and to follow oral and written instructions. Applicants must also be able to understand and apply building code and safety practices. A working knowledge of installation, repair, and maintenance practices, equipment, and materials used in skilled trades—such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, groundskeeping, or related areas.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in correctional, institutional, or other secure environments where maintenance operations require adherence to strict safety and security procedures. Trade‑related certifications, licenses, or completion of apprenticeships in areas such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or grounds maintenance are beneficial. Experience supervising staff, contractors, or inmate work crews in a maintenance or facilities setting.
