Job Duties

The Budget Analyst provides essential support to the Budget & Financial Services Manager in the development, preparation, and maintenance of state and private affiliate budgets. This role assists in preparing annual schedules, guidelines, templates, and baseline budget materials; performs routine data entry, tracking, and formatting; and organizes documentation to support internal and governing‑board requirements. The position reviews departmental submissions for completeness, coding accuracy, and arithmetic correctness, flagging discrepancies and routing substantive issues for supervisory review. The analyst updates standard reports, prepares routine adjustments, and performs entry‑level reconciliations to ensure financial information remains accurate and timely. Duties include tracking non‑general revenue sources such as grants, gifts, pledges, and restricted funds; maintaining logs and records in accordance with state retention schedules; and monitoring revenue trends to identify routine variances.

The role provides operational support to Museum Operations & Education by preparing reports, checking financial coding, assisting with reconciliations, and supporting procurement documentation preparation. The analyst also contributes to strategic and long‑range planning activities by updating calendars, templates, schedules, and required submissions related to DPB and agency planning processes. Throughout all responsibilities, the position engages in constructive communication with supervisors, incorporates feedback to support ongoing development, and ensures adherence to established procedures, timelines, and compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of budget planning principles, including formulation, evaluation, execution, and financial management.
  • Strong analytical and predictive modeling skills to evaluate financial data, perform cost‑benefit analyses, and support decision‑making.
  • Ability to coordinate, monitor, and reconcile multiple budgets while ensuring compliance with state and agency policies.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Skilled in preparing clear, accurate financial statements and written reports.
  • Aptitude for accuracy, timeliness, and organization when working with tight deadlines or managing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry best practices related to confidentiality, professional ethics, and adherence to agency policies.
  • Demonstrates commitment to courteous, timely, and accurate service in support of the agency mission.
  • Exhibited ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner, adjusting style to the audience and purpose.(Both written and oral.)
  • Proficiency with automated accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Additional Considerations

Preferred knowledge of state government operations, budget processes, and financial policies; nonprofit finance experience desirable.
