Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Veteran Services is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to assist the Veterans Education Transition & Employment (VETE) department. The administrative assistant will provide a high level of active and independent administrative support to the VETE Director and service line. The administrative assistant will be responsible for administrative tasks and tracking. This role provides critical support for the efficient operation of the Veterans Education, Transition, & Employment Unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) mission, with an emphasis on Veterans Education, Transition, and Employment (VETE) programs, as well as general state government operations, administrative procedures, records management, and confidentiality requirements. Familiarity with project coordination practices and customer service principles in a public-facing environment.

Demonstrated skill in organization and time management, with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate schedules, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other administrative or tracking tools. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate work and maintain reliable records and tracking systems. Effective coordination, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative working relationships.

Additional Considerations

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher in business administration, public administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant administrative or office support experience in a professional environment is required.
