Job Duties

Performs professional level work of moderate difficulty requiring the application of accounting theory and principles. Characteristic duties: develop methods of recording fiscal transactions, allocate funds, update and maintain accounting systems, independently prepare financial statements/reports/cost analyses, and develop and present budgets and other financial information for review. Other major duties: all functions of compensation accounting including assuring timely processing of payrolls, distribution of checks, preparing federal/state tax reporting, fringe benefits and premium conversion. May supervise or lead fiscal paraprofessionals and/or other support personnel.

The Accounts Receivable team is located within the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Financial Management (OFM). This office is a collaborative team that oversees the operational side of the organization and assists with compliance and reporting financial transactions. OFM provides financial oversight to a complex, decentralized agency with many districts and subdivisions, each with their own needs and challenges.
The Accounts Receivable team is responsible for the processing and approval of deposit
transactions, as well as oversight of the Agency’s deposit accounts which represent a multitude of sources and funding streams. The group strives to provide excellent customer service and guidance to our internal and external partners on all deposit and revenue related matters.

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices including cost accounting.
• Knowledge of the use of data processing techniques in maintaining accounting records.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a variety of financial transactions and records and multiple funding streams.
• Demonstrated ability to design and compile financial reports and statements.
