About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Conducting legal research, inquiries, and analysis to determine offender classification on the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry in compliance with Sections 9.1-900 through 9.1-918 of the Code of Virginia.
• Accurately entering/verifying/uploading registrations pursuant to the laws that govern the registry to ensure the registration information is accurately entered and verified.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Of general office practices and procedures.

Skill:

• In the use of personal computers and using Microsoft Office applications.
• In keyboarding.

Ability:

• To research and analyze information and make logical decisions based on policies, procedures, and laws.
• To perform research on questionable data by applying established procedures from training and learn laws regarding registration requirements.
• To apply general knowledge of computer formatted functions, state, federal codes and regulation.
• To exercise independent judgment and apply prescribed policies and procedures.
• To follow written and verbal instructions.
• To pay close attention to details.
• To work independently and as part of a team.
• To communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
• Progressively responsible administrative experience in researching and analyzing data from a variety of sources to determine validity and identify missing elements.
• Requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
