THE ORGANIZATION
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs serves the citizens of the Commonwealth by enhancing public safety through supplemental funding to local governments, education, and training to first responders, fire prevention and life safety education through community risk reduction and statewide fire code enforcement.
THE POSITION
VDFP is seeking an experienced professional who can promote VDFP’s business communication strategies. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be based the out of Glen Allen, VA, and serves as VDFP’s public information officer (PIO). This position will be responsible for but not limited to coordinating project management activities for the executive leadership team; enhancing strategic partnerships with internal and external customers to ensure clear communications are developed; and managing, marketing, and developing the agency’s social media presence, printed materials, and e-mail list service. The incumbent of this position will also manage agency public and media relations, marketing campaigns, and coordinate agency public awareness events around the Commonwealth. The marketing and Communications Manager will also act as the agency FOIA officer and manages the FIOA request database; leads the coordination, execution, marketing, and procurement activities related to the agency's annual memorial service; and develops marketing and communications strategies to promote the agency and to align the agency’s strategic plan.
Minimum Qualifications
· Experience demonstrating considerable knowledge of public communications, public affairs, and marketing.
· Considerable experience demonstrating the ability to coordinate/manage events and projects.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to develop/create language for press releases, brochures, articles. newsletters, and speech talking points.
· Experience demonstrating knowledge and skill using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and other related software, or experience demonstrating the ability to rapidly acquire proficiency.
· Work experience demonstrating oral communication skills with the ability to speak at meetings and events as needed.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to partner/collaborate with diverse work groups to include executives and other public information officials.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to lead, supervise, and provide guidance for subordinate employees.
· Experience developing and managing an organization's social media presence.
· Demonstrated capabilities with the Microsoft-Office products including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS-Outlook.
Additional Considerations
· A work history demonstrating extensive experience and knowledge of public communications, public affairs, and marketing.
· Extensive knowledge of project management and its application to state government; project management certification desired.
· Experience managing and coordinating FOIA and Media inquiries.
· Experience photographing events and activities desired.
· Knowledge, skills and abilities in graphic design.
