Job Duties
The Buildings and Grounds Department supports the hospital’s mission, vision, and strategic plan by maintaining the physical plant to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include performing routine lawn and landscape maintenance such as mowing, trimming, mulching, weeding flower beds, and keeping sidewalks, parking lots, and roadways clean across the hospital campus and associated buildings. The role also includes completing minor corrective maintenance work orders and ensuring preventive maintenance tasks are finished in a timely and efficient manner to meet established deadlines. Additional duties involve daily inspection and upkeep of grounds equipment, including blade sharpening and scheduled oil changes, as well as monitoring and managing vehicle fuels, oils, fluids, and coolants to prevent service disruptions. During winter weather events, the position is responsible for timely snow and ice removal from sidewalks, roadways, and parking areas to maintain safe access throughout the facility.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to physically perform duties and ability to work the scheduled hours, including on-call on a rotating basis.
Working knowledge of ground maintenance, ability to drive and operate mowers, tractors, heavy equipment, etc., ability to receive and follow oral and written instruction. Working knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance practices, equipment, and materials used in the assigned skilled trades areas including, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical repair, painting, HVAC/refrigeration repair, and/or grounds keeping; and some knowledge of the principles and practices of other trades areas. Working skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments and equipment, hand, and power tools. Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks in the assigned trades and utilities areas, to perform heavy manual labor, and to work from heights.
Additional Considerations
Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions. Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is desired.
