The Assistant Vice President-University Controller serves as the senior accounting leader for the University and is responsible for the execution and integrity of all financial reporting and accounting operations. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Controller operates as the leader within the financial management structure, maintaining full leadership responsibility over accounting functions while aligning execution with the strategic direction established by the Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Job Duties
Accounting Leadership & Operations
- Leads and manages all university accounting operations, including:
- General ledger
- Cash management
- Revenue and expenditure accounting
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all financial reporting
Financial Compliance & Controls
- Maintains and enforces internal control systems, risk management protocols, and fraud prevention measures
- Ensures compliance with :GASB, FASB, ARMICS
- Federal and state regulations
- Leads audit preparation and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
Execution of Financial Strategy
- Implements financial policies, procedures, and systems aligned with AVP direction
- Supports institutional financial strategy through accurate reporting and operational execution
- Provides financial analysis and insights to support decision-making
Grants, Assets & Regulatory Oversight
Oversee:
- Grants and contracts accounting
- Fixed assets management
- Cost accounting functions
Ensures compliance with all funding and regulatory requirements
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervises and develops accounting staff
- Build a high-performing team focused on accuracy, accountability, and efficiency
- Drives continuous improvement in accounting operations
Process Improvement & Systems
- Leads implementation and optimization of financial systems
- Improves accounting workflows, reporting processes, and data integrity
- Supports enterprise system upgrades and integrations
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and expertise in accounting and financial management operations through participation in professional organizations.
- Maintain positive working relationships with the university community and external financial reporting agencies.
- Ability to perform detailed work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a diverse group of professionals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
Additional Considerations
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate myriad items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
