Job Duties

The Department of General Services (DGS) is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Business QA Analyst to support our mission of service excellence across the Commonwealth of Virginia. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and enjoys solving complex business problems with technical solutions.

Reporting to the BA/QA Manager, the Business QA Analyst serves as a key liaison between the Information Systems & Services (ISS) division and business units. The role involves analyzing business workflows, supporting system improvements, documenting requirements, and performing software testing. You’ll help ensure system upgrades, enhancements, and data-driven improvements meet both technical and business needs.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a liaison between ISS and business units to gather requirements and support system solutions.
  • Analyze current business processes and identify improvements or system enhancements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including requirements, workflows, and test plans.
  • Develop and execute test scripts for system upgrades, patches, and new feature rollouts.
  • Participate in system refreshes, upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and ensure systems stay compatible with modern technologies.
  • Respond to end-user requests for corrections, enhancements, or assistance.
  • Coordinate production modifications and document results.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing support through effective documentation for user, operational, and project needs.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule of up to 2 days per week, following a successful training period and an approved telework agreement, offering flexibility while maintaining strong team collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a Business Analyst supporting HR, Finance, Construction, Facilities Management, Procurement, Real Estate, or clinical laboratories.
  • Experience with requirement elicitation for software systems and applications using various techniques to elicit system and software requirements such as interviews, brainstorming, document analysis, focus groups, observations, and prototyping.
  • Knowledge and experience with change control and release management processes.
  • Experience with MS Office products including Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS-Project, Teams and Sharepoint.
  • Experience creating and executing test plans and conducting manual and/or automated testing to include system, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills and be able to communicate with all levels of business and technical staff, diverse audiences, give presentations, and conduct meetings
  • Experience in system and business documentation – to include process and data flow diagrams, user and functional requirement documents, and business cases.
  • Experience conducting gap analysis to identify differences between as is and to-be states of business processes and system functionality.
  • Experience creating training documentation and conducting training sessions for technical staff or end users.

Additional Considerations

  •  Business Analyst Certificate or coursework towards certification
  • Experience with one or more of the following applications – LIMS, eVA, Peoplesoft Finance, Assetworks
