Job Duties
The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Communications and Content Specialist. The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center provides access to higher education, workforce training and programming, innovative industry services, and technologically advanced state-of-the-art facilities and learning labs that includes comprehensive fiscal management, operational and supportive services, community outreach and engagement, and extensive collaborations. These components work together to support the organization’s mission of advancing Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration. This position supports the agency’s communications, marketing, and outreach efforts through content creation and storytelling, designing and printing marketing materials, managing digital and social media content, developing written communications that connect with a variety of audiences, and providing program and event support. This position also provides occasional support to the SVHEC’s PearsonVUE Assessment Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience using design software to create print and digital assets; Experience writing a variety of communications including documents, social media posts, and/or media releases; Knowledge of marketing and communications principles, including branding, audience targeting, and message development; Knowledge of social media platforms, content strategies, and current digital trends; Knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, typography, and visual hierarchy; Strong written communication skills, including the ability to develop clear, concise, and engaging content for multiple audiences; Graphic design skills with the ability to create visually appealing marketing materials using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite; Social media management skills, including content planning, scheduling, and engagement; Content creation skills, including writing, basic photography, and/or video capture/editing and Editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail. High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
Professional certifications in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Photography or Videography.
