Job Duties
The Science Museum is seeking two energetic, hospitality-focused Guest Operations Senior Generalists to provide leadership support as part of our Guest Operations team.
In this role, you will serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the Guest Operations Manager of Guest Services and Museum, delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming, engaging visitor experience for guests, vendors, and staff. Oversee daily operations in admissions, the gift shop, and concession areas, ensuring smooth, efficient service aligned with the Museum’s mission and values.
Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply at https://jobs.virginia.gov/
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience handling cash and credit card transactions while following established cash control procedures. They must be able to work independently, manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, and build effective working relationships through genuine customer engagement and service. Strong supervisory, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential, including experience overseeing paid and/or unpaid staff, volunteers, and the public. The candidate should be able to read, understand, and interpret written materials and oral instructions and possess working knowledge of PC software and hardware, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite. Sufficient visual and hearing abilities are also required to effectively respond to public needs and perform detailed work. Must be comfortable with crowds and enjoy working with children and individuals of all ages. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings is required.
