Job Duties

To support the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success of Norfolk State University’s international student population by providing immigration advising, administrative coordination, and student support services. This position is responsible for maintaining institutional compliance with federal regulations governing F-1 students through accurate SEVIS reporting, issuance of immigration documents, and guidance on status maintenance, employment authorization, and travel. The coordinator also promotes student engagement and successful transition by collaborating with campus partners to provide resources, programming, and responsive support.

Minimum Qualifications

 KSA’s and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

• Knowledge of F-1 regulations, SEVIS reporting requirements, and Designated School Official (DSO) responsibilities to ensure institutional and student compliance with federal laws.
• Ability to advise international students on immigration status, employment, travel, academics, and adjustment issues while communicating complex information clearly and professionally.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and ensure timely processing of immigration documents and student requests.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations while providing responsive, respectful, and student-centered support services.
• Ability to work with faculty, staff, and external agencies, analyze issues, exercise sound judgment, and resolve concerns that support student success and regulatory compliance.

Additional Considerations

Education, Experience, and Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:

• Working knowledge of F-1 international student regulations, SEVIS reporting requirements, and federal immigration compliance standards.
• Experience advising or supporting students in higher education, student services, or international education settings.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, maintain accurate records, and manage confidential information.
• Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and database or student information systems.
• Willingness and ability to learn and effectively use customer relationship management (CRM) and international student platforms such as Terra Dotta, VIA, or similar systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills with attention to detail.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in higher education, international education, admissions, or student services.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, International Education, Business, Public Administration, or related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
