The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of an Automation and Robotics Instructor within its Career Tech Academy (CTA). The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center provides access to higher education, workforce training, and innovative industry services through technologically advanced facilities and learning labs. The organization delivers comprehensive fiscal, operational, and support services while engaging the community through outreach and broad collaborations. Together, these components strengthen the Center’s mission to advance Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and partnership. The Career Tech Academy is a hands-on regional technical training center located at the SVHEC available to high school students from Charlotte, Halifax, and Mecklenburg Counties. High school students can earn community college credits, a Career Studies Certificate, and Industry Endorsed Credentials. The CTA Automation Robotics Program allows students to complete curriculum and instructional courses in one year of high school preparing them for nationally recognized industrial assessments. The duties and responsibilities of the CTA Automation and Instructor is to plan, develop and teach quality automation and robotics technology courses and provide relevant hands-on training to high-school students, preparing them for professional certifications and helping them to become job-ready with the necessary automation related knowledge, skills and abilities. In addition to instructional duties, the instructor will assist with inventory management, ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational, and engage with employer partners to better understand and meet workforce needs. The CTA Automation & Robotics Instructor position will focus on preparing high school students with industry-recognized certification(s) as a direct pathway to employment in the automation and robotics sector or further educational opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable instructional experience in secondary or higher education. Considerable work experience in the automation and/or robotics field to include operation, maintenance & repair, and/or installation. Considerable working and applied knowledge of electrical, controls, electronics, robotics, and programmable logic controllers. Considerable working and applied knowledge of technical skills needed to troubleshoot, service, and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery used in the manufacturing environment and industry sector. Demonstrated ability to develop programs and apply curricula to satisfy VDOE, VCCS, and industry needs. Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching and the education experience. Demonstrated ability to work with educational and corporate partners as well as high school, adult non-traditional learners, and other workforce stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of OSHA standards. Proven successful customer service experience with working knowledge of team practices and procedures. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
Associate’s Degree in Automation Robotics or Technical Studies or related field. Working knowledge in computer programming, automation software, and engineering applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office with VBA automation, Visual Basic, C/C++, C#, Java, Python, Scratch, Sketch, G-Code, M-Code, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, and MasterCam.
