Job Duties

The Pharmacist directs, manages, and supervises professional services and staff of the pharmacy department in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager

Responsible for assuring quality pharmaceutical care to all residents within the facility

Assumes fiscal responsibility of the pharmacy department

Accurately interprets, evaluates and dispenses pharmaceuticals to the nursing units including checking for appropriateness of therapy

Evaluates and recommends orders for space, material, equipment, and services necessary for efficient operation

Determines sources and establishes contracts with pharmaceutical and medical supply distributors based on the best price and pharmaceutical quality

Develops a facility drug formulary in cooperation with facility Medical Director and vendors

Controls pharmacy inventory

Assures all records and reports required by Federal and State law and facility policies are kept current and accurate.

Provides information to facility physicians and other facility staff on all aspects of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care

Assures that facility policies are adhered to by the pharmacy department

Assists in writing policy/procedures for pharmacy department.

Accurately interprets, evaluates and dispenses pharmaceuticals to the nursing units including checking for appropriateness of therapy

Evaluates and recommends orders for space, material, equipment, and services necessary for efficient operation

Determines sources and establishes contracts with pharmaceutical and medical supply distributors based on the best price and pharmaceutical quality

May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

B.S. Pharmacy with current Virginia license

At least have one year of experience as a pharmacist in charge in an inpatient pharmacy setting.
