Job Duties

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Program Counselor for the Office of Learner Success and Engagement (OLSE) to meet the needs of current and potential students. This position will assist students with career exploration, educational program information, program registration, provide orientation for new students in Workforce Training programs and provide a general SVHEC orientation for all students taking classes at the SVHEC from our partner institutions. The position will assist with all activities of the SVHEC Testing and Assessment Center to include WorkKeys and Pearson Vue testing, assist the Director of Student and Partner Advancement and the Manager of the Office of Learner Success and Engagement with assigned duties as well as assist the department and agency in accomplishing the goals of the SVHEC Strategic Plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable experience in student counseling and advising. Considerable knowledge and experience of office practices, procedures, and techniques. Working knowledge of utilizing a student information system. Demonstrated ability to prepare and compile reports. Demonstrated ability to provide customer service to internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to use word processing, spreadsheet/database applications and presentation software. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Experience in exam proctoring. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential data. Must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to work in a team setting. High school graduate or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

Extensive coursework in Education, Counseling, or related field. Pearson VUE or other test proctor certification. Considerable work experience of grant writing and grants management.
