Job Duties
The Interstate Compact Unit provides day-to-day oversight of Probation and Parole field actions related to the transfer and supervision of those on community supervision in and out of the Commonwealth of Virginia via the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision (ICAOS). The unit processes managed activities submitted by Virginia P&P officers and from other states, monitors compliance with the rules governing interstate movement of probationers and parolees, initiates interventions to address and correct noncompliance, and coordinates training and education regarding regulations of interstate movement of those under community supervision for officials involved in such activity.
The Interstate Compact Unit Probation & Parole Specialist positions coordinate and monitor P&P field actions related to the transfer and supervision of probationers and parolees through the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision to ensure compliance with the rules and the spirit of the Compact. This position specifically serves as the Interstate Compact Unit liaison to assigned Virginia Probation and Parole Districts and other state compact offices for the purpose of monitoring and resolving Compact issues and serves as an Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System (ICOTS) resource. This is not a VALORs-eligible position.
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, including supervision processes. Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand file materials and legal documents and case data. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and handled high volume, time sensitive tasks, perform detail-oriented work, and function effectively and efficiently using a computer and web-based applications. Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to follow written policies, rules, and procedures consistently (especially ICAOS rules). Ability to receive and apply feedback from supervisors for performance improvement.
Additional Considerations
Working knowledge of the judicial sentencing, revocation and termination processes. Experience working in VirginiaCORIS and the Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System (ICOTS) and experience working directly with probationers and parolees in a community correction setting (probation officer).
