Job Duties
The DGS Bureau of Facilities & Maintenance (BFM) within the Division of Capitol Square Services (DCSS) is looking to hire a skilled Housekeeping Professional. BFM is a customer-focused organization that provides high quality, cost effective and timely services for the roughly 75 state and legislative agencies located within the Capitol Square complex. We operate and maintain approximately 6.45 million square feet of space at the Capitol Complex and throughout the metropolitan Richmond area, including office buildings, the State Capitol, the Governor's Mansion and monuments.
We are looking for a skilled Housekeeping Worker who take pride in keeping the workplace a clean, safe & healthy environment for our tenants and visitors of the Commonwealth's newly constructed General Assembly Building (GAB) and other properties maintained by DGS, located in downtown Richmond, Virginia. The housekeeping worker will be responsible for providing a variety of cleaning/custodial services to their assigned buildings.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining cleanliness of high‑traffic areas such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, breakrooms, and entrances throughout the day
- Restocking supplies including paper products, soap, sanitizer, and other consumables
- Responding to immediate cleaning needs like spills, accidents, or urgent sanitation requests
- Emptying and relining trash and recycling receptacles to keep areas clean and odor‑free
- Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms multiple times per shift to maintain hygiene standards
- Dusting, wiping, and spot‑cleaning surfaces including doors, glass, counters, and fixtures
- Monitoring and maintaining building appearance by addressing fingerprints, smudges, debris, and clutter
- Supporting event setup and breakdown such as arranging chairs, tables, or light cleanup
- Reporting maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, broken fixtures, safety hazards) to the appropriate personnel
- Providing customer‑service‑oriented support to staff and visitors by responding to requests professionally.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to work required schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00AM - 3:45PM.
- Ability to perform various assigned cleaning/custodial tasks.
- Ability to work with others.
- Skilled in operating industrial cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces.
- Individuals must understand and follow safety practices in using cleaning chemicals and supplies, and must be familiar with the sanitation standards for a public facility.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs safely and repeatedly as needed
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, and move continuously for extended periods of time during the shift
- Ability to perform routine cleaning tasks that may require reaching, stretching, or working in various positions
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions
