About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Purpose of Position:

To provide support in implementing the operation and maintenance plan for Maneuver Training Center (MTC)/National Guard facilities in assisting the Virginia Army National Guard (VAARNG) in sustaining readiness and fulfilling our federal and state missions. Provide operational management and supervision of the MTC, Fort Pickett Roads & Grounds Division with responsibilities for all maintenance, repair and installation operations for Improved & Unimproved Grounds, Roadways, Infrastructure; related Construction Equipment Operation and Grounds Maintenance Trades Disciplines; and Fleet Management for the MTC, Fort Pickett and other VAARNG Facilities

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current State employee;

Advanced knowledge of construction practices and methods related to heavy construction, roadways, improved & un-improved grounds maintenance and job-costing;

Knowledge of facility maintenance and management practices and procedures;

Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices and procedures;

Experience supervising and managing subordinate level operations managers and employees within a multiple trades disciplines activity;

Knowledge of roads & bridges construction and grounds maintenance materials & methods;

Knowledge of DEQ regulations and stormwater management practices;

Knowledge of heavy engineering equipment operations;

Knowledge of safety and OSHA procedures and regulations;

Ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, direct and monitor work;

Skill in oral and written communication;

Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical literature and drawings;

Skill in use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Additional Considerations

DEQ Stormwater Management Certification is preferred;

Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) licensure in a related classification is preferred.
