The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia offering programs and resources about early American history through its museums – Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown

The Learning team is part of the larger Learning and Community Engagement department; focusing on student programming both onsite in our museums, virtually, in the classroom and through support for self guided groups and homeschool educators.

Job Duties

The Learning Facilitator will deliver engaging, high-quality historical education programs for student audiences at the Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Using dialogic and inquiry based teaching methods, this position serves diverse student groups, and guests through structured tours and onsite programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of or interest in 17th/18th century history and how it relates to today
Knowledge of or interest in current educational methodologies
Excellent customer service skills
Enjoys working with a diverse population of adults and children
Ability to learn and apply new information in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Knowledge of or interest in program development

Previous relevant work experience or education will be taken into consideration.

This position is being offered in two distinct roles. Applicants are asked to consider the two roles and indicate which they would prefer. Preference will be considered along with the application, resume and interview materials when making offers and placement decisions.

Learning Facilitator Seasonal- This position primarily works during the academic year, providing our core structured educational tour and program experiences to school groups. Upon completion of training, successful candidates would provide availability and begin being scheduled for tours.
Tours are typically scheduled Tuesday-Friday, with an occasional weekend, between mid-September through May.

This position is an entry level position, paying $15 per hour, and is a great opportunity for those who like history, teaching, learning and working with kids.

Learning Facilitator Core- This position works throughout the year, providing our core structured educational tour and program experiences to school groups and guests. Most works is scheduled Tuesday-Friday with the occasional weekend or evening. Additionally, the core role supports program development, special events and Summer programs. Upon completion of training, successful candidates would provide availability and begin being scheduled for tours and programs.

This position is considered a more mid-level position, paying $16.50 per hour. This is a great opportunity for those emerging museum professionals and educators, career switchers, retirees, or those with previous experience.
