Job Duties
Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SVMHI) is a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited state psychiatric facility located in Danville, VA. The hospital serves individuals who are civilly committed and in need of treatment, and/or individuals involved in the criminal justice system who need treatment and/or pre-trial evaluation.
This position supports timely completion of medical records by providing prompt and accurate scanning of medical record documents into the Electronic Health Record of individuals served, performing quality checks of reviewing scanned documents to ensure all paper documentation is scanned correctly and legibly, and preparing discharge records for permanent filing, ensuring records are filed properly. This position performs various audits of required documentation to ensure compliance with policies and regulations and notifies staff when documents are deficient, ensuring accurate and complete documentation. This position maintains a supply of assembled unit charts for incoming admissions and maintains supply of medical record forms used for documentation and for downtime of EHR. This position provides primary back-up for Switchboard/Receptionist services. This position provides back-up for completion of assigned duties for the Admissions Registration Clerk, the Medical Records Technician, and other HIM clerks during staff absences and workload changes.
Minimum Qualifications
Clerical experience in a medical office or hospital setting.
Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) System to include scanning documentation into the EHR system.
This position also requires:
Excellent written communication skills, qualifying typing skills, and familiarity using Microsoft Office Word and Excel applications.
Knowledge of the Federal HIPAA compliance standards for Release of Protected Health Information.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to calmly respond to needs of the public while covering the switchboard/receptionist duties.
Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
