Job Duties

Serves as the agency's Director of Public Health Nursing as a direct report to the Deputy Commissioner for Community Health Services. Characteristic duties include
meeting with central office program staff and local health departments to identify, resolve and implement actions to eliminate barriers to the delivery of quality nursing
care. Travel as needed to the local health districts requiring additional assistance, technical guidance or to assist with the hiring and recruiting of nursing leadership.
This position identifies goals, objectives and standards of nursing to meet agency wide needs and develops the nursing component of the agency's strategic plan. The
position may supervise professional staff. This positions represents Community Health Services and VDH on statewide public health nursing issues. The position has
key roles in the operational roles of the agency’s incident command structure in response to public health emergency. May provide direct patient care where needed

In this highly visible executive leadership role, you will collaborate with senior agency leaders, local health districts, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders to
advance innovative public health initiatives, strengthen the nursing workforce, and improve population health outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of public health science and nursing practice including community assessment and health improvement
• Strong foundation in the prevention and treatment of communicable diseases (i.e. HIV/STDs/TB) and/or family planning services
• Understanding of community-based nursing and health services
• Progressive leadership experience in public health nursing
• Considerable knowledge of management practices, specifically with large or complex organizations
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with varied agencies, multiple disciplines and various levels of staff
• Familiarity with state and local government laws and practices affecting public health nursing
• Skilled in problem solving, decision making, priority setting, negotiation, and conflict management
• Ability to independently solicit information/input from multiple sources, analyze data, and make programmatic or policy recommendations

Additional Considerations

• Direct clinical experience working at a local or state health department
• Considerable management experience
