Job Duties

The Chickahominy Health District is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Health Manager Senior to provide leadership for its Environmental Health Team and overall management of its environmental health programs, including food safety, onsite sewage and well, rabies control, and FOIA. The position is responsible for administrative and operational oversight, policy administration, and quality assurance of all environmental health programs within the district. As a member of the district’s Executive Management Team, this position has additional general leadership responsibilities, to include: developing a long-term district strategic plan (in collaboration with other district leaders), developing and managing an annual budget (in collaboration with the other members of the Management Team), determining allocation of resources, implementing long-term staff development plans, and developing community partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to a pass pre-appointment criminal records check and a background investigation.
• Knowledge of all Environmental Health programs as well as epidemiology, management, and leadership principles.
• Skills in program management, risk assessment, supervision, coaching, and team leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on technical reports.
• Ability to collaboratively manage complex, multifaceted Environmental Health programs, develop and manage teams, and create shared visions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, and state and local government officials.
• Ability to handle difficult and rapidly changing scenarios.
• A valid State Driver's License is required.

Additional Considerations

• To perform official environmental health inspections or evaluations, must possess the appropriate certifications as outlined for the Environmental Health Specialist Sr. and Environmental Health Technical Specialist positions at VDH (e.g., VDH Standardized Food certification, DPOR conventional Onsite Soil Evaluator (COSE) certification, DPOR Alternative Onsite Soil Evaluator (AOSE), VDH Certified Milk Sanitation Officer certification, VDH Certified Food Safety Standardization Officer certification, VDH Certified Onsite Sewage System Technical Specialist certification, and/or National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) State Standardized Inspector certification).
• Credentialing as a NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is preferred.
• Experience with the Incident Command System (ICS).
