The Virginia Department of Fire Programs serves the citizens of the Commonwealth by enhancing public safety through supplemental funding to local governments, education, training to first responders, fire prevention and life safety education through community risk reduction, and statewide fire code enforcement.
About the Position
The IT Specialist will be primarily responsible for providing information technology support for the Virginia Learning Center (VLC), the Department of Fire Programs Learning Management System (LMS), staff, students, board members, and stakeholders during conferences. Specifically, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the agency’s in and out of scope PC hardware; installation of PC software using image deployment utilities; providing user support for hardware and software; providing technical support for PC and LAN related problems; and performing end user password resets. The incumbent of this position will also be responsible for contacting vendors for equipment repair, equipment and related software procurement, coordination of video conference management; and providing client email client and helpdesk support. The IT Specialist also serves as a backup administrator for ImageTrend and provides support for other agency internal systems to include Windows server administration, badging, user accounts, and policies and security settings in compliance with Commonwealth standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience demonstrating technical knowledge in the areas of IT hardware, software, operating systems [including server-based systems], networking concepts, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues.
- Work experience supporting a multi-user environment and network/LA(s), Active Directory, Windows server and PC Desktop OS and MS Office Suite, and AV support and installations.
- Working knowledge of Regular Expressions, HTML, XML, XPath, Web Services and Entity Frameworks. Knowledge and use of Visio, DevExpress tools and MS Project.
- Experience demonstrating the skills and abilities to install, configure, and troubleshoot network printers.
- Knowledge of Windows operating system including and above Windows 10 SQL Server 2008 R2; 10; and 11).
- Experience demonstrating considerable analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience demonstrating the ability to multi-task, work independently with little to no supervision, but also work cooperatively in a team environment if needed.
- Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills.
- Experience demonstrating the ability to exercise tact/diplomacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer operation skills, knowledge of the Microsoft Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
