The Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Local Training and Development is currently seeking a Curriculum Development Supervisor. This position supervises the development of the Human Services portfolio’s curriculum development products, with a focus on Benefit Programs, that support the needs of the agency and manages a curriculum development team responsible for developing curriculum development products. This position will provide direct support to Local Agencies of Social Services (LDSS) staff who perform complex, high-stakes human services work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Comprehensive experience in supervision, including conflict management, performance management, and supporting staff in achieving performance goals.
  • Considerable experience in developing or revising training curriculum and working with subject matter experts to design and write course content.
  • Ability to research, write, edit, revise, and format curriculum.
  • Applied knowledge of instructional design methods, including adult learning techniques, best practices for group facilitation, and the effective use of instructional aids for adult learners in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.
  • Knowledge of and experience with VDSS Human Services programs, specifically with expertise in at least three of the following Benefit Programs areas, such as, SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, VIEW, VaCMS, and Child Care Subsidy.
  • Knowledge of and experience with local department of social services program administration and services delivery, or similar experience working across a state, regional, and local delivery systems.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills to effectively engage and learn from other members of the training team.
  • Ability to manage projects through the instructional design process including timelines, task tracking, internal and external stakeholder input, revision cycles, and customer involvement in course review and piloting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; meet deadlines; travel to deliver training; participate in meetings to address statewide training needs; and interact with all levels of VDSS and other state and local entities.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint) and Adobe applications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Learning Center.
  • Significant work experience in a local agency of social services is preferred.
