About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Accountant in our Property and Finance Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Assisting in collection of past due Accounts Receivables.
• Performing general accounting activities with emphasis in the areas of Cash Receipts, Petty Cash, and Moving and Relocation in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia and Agency Accounting Policies and Procedures.
• Performing collections and daily deposits in accordance with the Department of Accounts (DOA) and Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual policy and internal policies.
• Maintaining the Petty Cash Fund account.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Accounting for and collection of accounts receivable and its associated impact on financial statement preparation and reporting.
• Fundamentals of preparing financial statements and reports.

Skills in:

• Using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
• Using database applications.

Ability to:

• Analyze financial data and perform complex account reconciliations.
• Prepare and enter accounting journal entries and maintain accounts receivable ledgers.
• Prepare accounting summaries, statements and reports.
• Meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Comprehend and apply GAAP, state and federal compliance regulations, and the Virginia Department of Taxation regulations.
• Communicate orally and writing effectively in English with internal and external customers.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, management, and vendors.
• Experience or training of accounting, business management, finance or related field required.
• Accounts Receivable experience required.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of governmental accounting policies and procedures is preferred.
•Knowledge of Agency policies and procedures preferred.
• Experience with Debt Set-Off or Past Due Receivables preferred.
• Experience with the Cardinal system, or other fiscal and accounting mainframe systems preferred.
• Experience using Oracle E-Business Suites (OEBS) General Ledger module highly preferred.
• Experience working in Virginia State Government preferred.
