Do you enjoy working with the public? The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health is seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills to work in a friendly, fast-paced medical clinic as an Accounts Receivables Specialist within our Clinic Administrative Team. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for providing superior customer service, medical billing, accounts receivable posting, daily financial deposits, reconciliation and Vital Records.
This Position will be responsible for Payment Posting , Insurance Remits, Deposits and Administrative Support
Payment Posting and Insurance Remits
- Oversees payment intake and posting of payment reconciliation processes.
- Accurately posts check, electronic and credit card payments received from patients, third party insurance carriers and organizations to account ledgers.
- Reads explanation of benefits (EOBs) from insurance carries, post payments and make adjustments accordingly.
- Obtain and research insurance remittances and payments in various portals.
- Review, post and balance insurance recoupments and refunds.
- Distributes reimbursement voucher to correct revenue code.
- Makes necessary adjustments to accounts per established guidelines.
Deposits
- Prepare and certify the daily deposit of state receipts for district before bank deposit.
- Reconciliation of receipts. Maintains professional knowledge regarding medical billing and coding procedures, insurance carriers and federal programs, etc.
Administrative Support
- Assist with special projects assigned in collaboration with Clinc Admin Team- Office Services Supervisor, Clinic Administrative Manager, Fiscal Tech Sr Business Manager or Medical Director of Virginia Beach Health District
- Provide back up to Billing AR and Vital Records.

Minimum Qualifications
- Proven experience of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies & procedures and customer service
- Proven experience of strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written
- Proven experience of strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator)
- Proven experience of ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files & manuals
- Proven experience of the ability to maintain confidentiality (HIPPA Compliant)Proven experience of the ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies
Additional Considerations
- Experience with medical office billing and coding
- Experience with medical accounts receivable
- Experience with completing banking deposits and/or financial journal vouchers
- Experience with collections management and payment reconciliation
