Job Duties
Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients – Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter – provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginia’s Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units.
Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is seeking a Groundskeeper to join the Maintenance Team. This role is responsible for the appearance of the grounds and property of the facility. Duties include: keeping the property free of leaves and debris, maintaining outside trash cans, and maintain all interior plants. This role will also be responsible for inspecting the lawn, flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and/or other pests, and taking appropriate measures for effective control and maintenance. Additional responsibilities include: weeding and thinning flowerbeds, connecting sprinkler equipment and watering lawns (to include shrubbery and flowerbeds), maintaining tools, equipment, and keeping work areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition. This role will perform other duties as assigned within the Maintenance Department's mission and to meet the overall needs of the facility.
This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic or facility need. This position participates in the rotating On Call schedule in the Maintenance Department.
Minimum Qualifications
--Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
--Experience in lawn care, and associated grounds maintenance.
--Ability to work independently, to plan assigned work, select and gather necessary materials, tools and equipment for maximum efficiency and compliance with codes and regulations.
--Experience in light maintenance repairs (light bulb, filter replacement etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
--Experience working at a long term care facility or health facility.
