Job Duties
This position provides support and assistance to the Chief Nurse Executive in developing and implementing strategic priorities and plans for the nursing department. This position works closely with the CNE in development and implementation of the facility’s plan for the provision of care. This position provides direct supervision for all assigned Nursing shift supervisors, nurse educators, Nursing specialists and scheduling staff. This position will ensure the operation of a medical clinic, medical housing unit, psychiatric housing unit and all specialty services provided by the Nursing Department. This position collaborates with Administration, Nursing Shift Supervisors, Facility and Unit Managers, Treatment and Food Services staff to provide appropriate resident care. This position consults with Residential Services on daily operations and Administration on interpretation of facility policies, to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and ensure staff and resident satisfaction. This position engages in continuous quality improvement (CQI) as an expert in CQI practice standards which are followed in Nursing. With the Chief Nurse Executive, this position develops, implements, and maintains nursing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of evidence-based nursing process.
Minimum Qualifications
• Principles of management and leadership.
• Knowledge of general and advanced nursing practices.
• Considerable knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, including program administration, budget development, and performance improvement.
• Considerable skill in the application of professional nursing techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, address barriers to quality, improve performance and mentor/develop the nursing skills of a diverse work force.
• Ability to coach and mentor nursing personnel.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to create a free exchange of facts, concepts, and perspectives.
• Ability to develop outcome measures.
• Strives to meet expectations/needs of residents; responds to concerns with sense of urgency; seeks win-win solutions for reasonable resident expectations.

• Valid Virginia RN licenses.
Additional Considerations
• Experience with CARF and/or State surveys preferred; experience with Joint Commission satisfies this.
• Minimum of three to five years’ experience in patient care services management preferred.
