Job Duties

Join the Virginia Department of Health Office of Human Resources as a Benefits Administrator and play a critical role in overseeing and administering the various state benefits and programs of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The incumbent will conduct new hire benefits orientation and handle open enrollment and other mid-year events.The Benefits Administrator serves as an advanced HR professional in the Benefits Center of Excellence within the Office of Human Resources. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in health benefits governed by DHRM and various benefits and programs offered through the Virginia Retirement System. Coordinate with HR staff, transactions and payroll teams. Specific areas of knowledge include health benefits, retirement (service & disability), layoff or Temporary Workforce Reduction (TWFR), Leave without Pay (LWOP), life insurance, VRS programs, Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting, Commonwealth of Virginia employee service awards program. Functions independently in carrying out daily responsibilities in the areas of Benefit  Administration, policy interpretation, and guidance. Provides benefits training and mentoring to agencywide HR staff. May provide lead or supervision to wage benefits staff and assures they have the appropriate training and resources necessary to be successful.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia Human Resources policies, procedures, programs & practices including employee benefit programs    & processing benefits related personnel transactions 

• Knowledge of federal & state employment law
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office to generate & format data, write reports, compose correspondence, provide statistical data, & prepare      presentations
• Strong interpersonal, written & platform communication skills; interacts with all levels of management & employees
• Ability to apply & interpret personnel policies & guidelines
• Ability to work independently to prioritize work/meet deadlines

Additional Considerations

• Prefer experience using Cardinal
